Mace spoke to Steve Fall recently.

Mason Madden (FKA Mace) in WWE says Fox squashed the plans to make Retribution a group like ANTIFA.

WWE began airing segments in the summer of 2020 featuring a group masked wrestlers who caused destruction, such tearing down a ring or lighting a generator outside a building. The storyline was a group wrestlers who thought the WWE development system was unfair.

Mace revealed in a recent interview that the group had originally been intended to be similar to ANTIFA. He says Fox dropped that angle.

Mace said

As I understand, we were supposed to be ANTIFA. Fox, because SmackDown was on their Fox program at the time, said, “Hey, stop.” *laughs*

So, confusion happened. They were asking, “How do we pivot?” They had already spent a lot of time on this angle. Then they gave us supervillians masks, and I was like “Cool.” I wanted to be like the Power Rangers villains.

Mustafa Ali, the leader of the group that officially disbanded on March 20, 2021, was revealed later.

He continued:

It never really got on track. Some people didn’t like it, and then it lost steam. They lost interest and you can’t win. The only way to make things work is to have momentum, and we never did.

Mace joined the Maximum Male Models at SmackDown’s April 15, 2022 episode. He was released by WWE in September.
