Kevin Egan was “not overly upset” about his release from WWE.

Kevin Patrick, a former member of WWE’s broadcast team, was with the company from 2021 until he was released in January. During his time at the company, he worked as a host, commentator, and backstage reporter.

Egan’s background is in soccer broadcasting, and he continued this work during his WWE tenure. He is now the host of MLS 360, which can be found on Apple TV.

In an interview with Richard Deitsch on Sports Media, Egan said that he believes his release is both good for him as well as good for WWE. He believes there was going to be a conflict between his WWE and Soccer roles, and that soccer was always going win out.

Football was always going win. If there were ever a collision, and there was one on horizon, it was very clearly on horizon. You know, I can’t be in New York studios at 1 p.m. Saturday if I am in Boise on a Friday doing SmackDown. This was inevitable. I was also not their long-term guy. They need someone who is all in. Michael Cole has missed only two shows in 27-years.

Egan, who was never a WWE fan as a child, says that working for the company has been a wonderful time in his life. He wouldn’t change a thing. He feels that the fans deserve more than what he offered as an announcer. Egan believes it was time to move on.

They deserve more. You know, that chair deserves more. It was time for me. I wanted to go. It got to the point where — I had talked with Michael Cole weeks earlier and I said: “Look, if you think I should move on, that’s fine.” I’m good. Let’s embrace. Let’s go!

I still talk with Michael Cole over the phone. I told Michael Cole that he was the best boss I’ve ever had when we completed the release. I still stand by my statement. He’s an amazing guy, and everyone with whom I worked was wonderful. It’s just a chapter. I didn’t get upset at all about it, and I don’t believe they did either. I think that it was a good thing for both the product on television and me. I love what I do now. When WWE is in Atlanta, I will pop down to say hello to friends.

Egan was a member of the SmackDown announcer team before his release. He previously did commentary for Raw. WWE’s current commentators are Michael Cole & Pat McAfee for Raw and Corey Graves & Wade Barrett for SmackDown.
