Kevin Owens looks forward to sharing a ring with Cody Rhodes during WWE Bash in Berlin.
Owens will challenge Rhodes to the Undisputed WWE Championship this Saturday at Bash in Berlin. This is the first WWE PPV/PLE ever to be broadcast from Germany. The show will air live at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Peacock/WWE Network.
Owens spoke with SHAK Wrestling about his upcoming Bash in Berlin and his friendship with Rhodes.
“It’s great to share that experience with my friend. In any case. “Anytime I get the chance to wrestle a friend on a major show, it is great,” he said.
“Cody left the [WWE] in 2016 and it was a suckup. It was painful to lose my friend [at that] time. I wanted him to get the best introduction to the independent scene because he was new. He had never done this. He had been in the WWE system so long at the time. The independent scene is completely different from the WWE. I put him in contact with The Young Bucks, who would take care of him. I knew they would get along, you know? I was right, they did. I think that was just to help him get on the right platform. He did everything else. He knew his capabilities and wanted to show the people – the promoters – what he saw in himself. He succeeded. It’s a bit of an understatement. It’s wonderful to see him receive all of his flowers. And to see him at the position he is now.”
Owens’ connection between Rhodes and The Young Bucks shaped modern wrestling history. It led to the creation AEW, and Rhodes returned to WWE as a star.
Rhodes won the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania forty from Roman Reigns. He’s successfully defended his title against AJ Styles and Logan Paul.
