Kelani Jordan, the first ever Women’s North American Champion, is a Canadian.
In a ladder match, Jordan defeated Sol Ruca and Michin as well as Lash Legend, Jaida Park, and Fallon Henley. The match was the opening event of Sunday’s NXT Battleground. Jordan gave Michin a split leg moonsault, then climbed a second ladder to win the North American title and become the first ever champion.
The ladder match was filled with a variety of crazy spots. For example, all five participants threw Lash Legend outside the ring onto a ladder. Ruca hit her sol snatcher finishing move twice, including once off a ladder.
The title was first introduced at NXT Stand & Deliver, on April 6, during WrestleMania Weekend. Ava announced the six woman ladder match for Battleground later that month. She held a storyline combined to determine the top 12 contenders for title. Six of the twelve women won their qualifying matches, with Thea Hail, Brinley Recece, Izzi Nile, Ivy Nile and Tatum Paxley failing to advance to ladder match.
