Josh Barnett, Minoru Suzuki announce Bloodsport Bushido event for Tokyo in todays Wrestling news
The show will be held on the 22nd of June at Ryogoku Kokugikan.
Josh Barnett and Minoru Suzuka are bringing Bloodsport back to Japan.
The two Pancrase veterans held a press conference on Wednesday and announced that Bloodsport Bushido would take place at the Ryogoku Kokugikan, in Tokyo, on June 22, 2024.
Bloodsport Bushido, which is similar to Bloodsport events in the United States will have shooter-style rules. There will be no ring ropes, and matches can only end by knockout or submission.
Barnett would later announce that they were looking for professional wrestlers as well as combat athletes from other sports. So far, only Barnett and Suzuki are confirmed for the show.
Barnett said during today’s Press Conference:
Bloodsport is a wrestling show that aims to capture the essence of wrestling. There are many different shows in professional wrestlers, and there are flashy performances all over the globe. Sometimes athletes get lost. I want to share what I’ve learnt from legends such as Matt Hume, Karl Gotch and Antonio Inoki. I do both combat sport and professional wrestling but when I was wrestling…I thought, “There’s something lacking.” I want to bring back that spirit and that heart to professional wrestling. I also want to create an environment like that.
The following is a translation of Suzuki’s remarks from today’s Press Conference:
It doesn’t really matter whether there are special rules, or where the match is held. “I don’t care if it’s in a barbed-wire ring, on a moving bus, in the middle of a field or in a moving train. It’s just a match to me,” he says. I don’t even know if I will bring it with me. (lol). I use everything there. That’s how I do it.
Barnett and Suzuki drew a 25-minute draw at Bloodsport 2019
Bloodsport X, a GCW Josh Barnett event, is scheduled for the weekend of WrestleMania in Philadelphia on April 4, 2024. Takuya Nômura vs. Fuminori Abe is the only match announced so far.
