Last week, a shocking announcement was made. It was revealed that Shayna Bassler will be competing in Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport X.
This is the first instance that a WWE wrestler was allowed to work an indie show during WrestleMania Week. Dave Meltzer reports Paul “Triple H’ Levesque is a different person than Vince McMahon on this issue, and Levesque decided to let Baszler do Bloodsport.
Josh Barnett, while appearing on the Under the Ring Podcast, said that he was able book Baszler for Bloodsport due to the relationships he has built over the years.
The easiest way for me to describe it would be through my relationships with the people at [WWE]. It really comes down to that. When it comes to a promotion you always want to be treated with respect and trust. It’s difficult to lend out your toys when you’ve invested so much in them and the product.
Cross-promotion is common in the worlds of wrestling. But it’s a big deal if you consider all the different aspects and the value that some of the athletes who are involved bring to the table. It’s now a reality, thanks to the relationships I’ve built over the years. I’m so happy and honored to have the opportunity to do this. I know Shayna will do great. I should know. I’ve trained her for her entire career.
Baszler will face Masha Slamovich in Bloodsport. A WWE wrestler will face a TNA competitor on a show presented by Barnett’s Game Changer Wrestling and an independent promotion.
Bloodsport will be broadcast live on TrillerTV+ on Thursday, 4 April at 4 pm Eastern time. The show will be held at Penns Landing Caterers, Philadelphia.
Bloodsport will also feature matches between Minoru Suzuki and Royce Isaacs, Josh Barnett vs. Johnny Bloodsport. The show features MMA inspired pro wrestling matches which can only be won by submission or knockout.
