Alexander will remain with TNA at least until February 2025.

Josh Alexander isn’t unhappy about his contract situation at TNA Wrestling.

TNA announced on the 20th of February that they had exercised their option to extend Alexander’s contract by an additional year. Alexander signed a 2-year extension with TNA for 2022, which included an option to extend the deal by another year.

TNA took up the option, despite Alexander’s request. Alexander said in an interview with Battleground Podcast that he thought he would like to enter free-agency, see what he is worth on the market, and renegotiate a new deal. Alexander does not dispute that TNA had every right to exercise the contract option. Alexander said that he was “completely fine with their decision”.

Alexander said that although he feels he has outworked his contract signed two years ago, it is still a great deal and he is cool with staying with TNA. Alexander said that he has dreamed of competing in the TNA ring ever since he was 15.

Alexander will remain with TNA at least until February 2025. He told the Battleground Podcast Anthem (TNA parent company) had expressed interest in negotiating an extended deal.

Alexander said:

Sincerity be told, I had no idea that my contract was about to expire. All of this happened with the termination Scott D’Amore. When I looked at my contract I thought, “Oh man, 14 February? It’s only three days away. That’s weird.’

I had to tell Anthem that the deal had expired and they had a 10-day window to take up the option. You might not know if you never ask. I asked if my option could be dropped and we could discuss a different contract, as I felt like I had outworked the contract I signed. It was a team-based option. It’s their ball. I signed the contract. It was their right to pick it up and I am fine with that. It’s still a great deal. It’s nothing that I’m bothered about. It’s not true to read tweets or other stuff that says I’m being held as a hostage, and all of this stuff, and forced to remain here against my will.

I signed the contract two years ago. I knew what I was doing when I signed the contract. At the end, I want to look myself in the mirror and be proud of how I conducted myself. I want to be able to say that I did the right thing. I signed the contract, I will honor it, and we’ll watch what happens over the next year. In the meantime, something could be renegotiated to make it more long-term. Anthem has definitely mentioned that they’d be interested in such a thing. But, I also thought it would cool to try free agency for the first time and see how much I was worth in the open market. Then, I could renegotiate and see what happened.

But, yeah, it’s cool to stay in TNA. Since I was 15, I have dreamed of being in TNA. I first watched the show on Wednesday nights. To make that happen, I’d have to get into a TNA ring for Hard to Kill at the Palms and then face Will Ospreay the next day for Snake Eyes. That’s like a dream come to life. So I’m going to see this through, and I will do so for the next 11 or however many months it may be. Then we’ll see what happens. But — not being held as hostage [laughs]. It’s a bit too dramatic for me.

Alexander, one of TNA’s top stars, is signed to the promotion as of 2019. Alexander has won two World Championships during his time with TNA/Impact.
