Jon Moxley says the Shield has done “exactly what [we] said we would do” in todays Wrestling news
Moxley recently spoke with Sports Illustrated.
Jon Moxley recently spoke to Sports Illustrated about his former teammates from The Shield.
Since their debuts at WWE Survivor Series in 2012, Moxley has been one of the most successful wrestlers.
The faction played a part in the WrestleMania main event, when Rollins wore a tactical vest and came out to the music of The Shield to distract Reigns. Moxley was in Japan when this happened. He claims he woke to texts from people who had heard The Shield and thought Rollins was coming out.
Moxley said
I was sleeping in Japan at the time. When I woke, I received messages saying, “I thought you were going out!” And I was like: “Coming out where?” It’s cool that they thought it was me. But I was asleep.
On April 30, Moxley will have left WWE exactly five years ago. Rollins, who has had many different versions of himself over the years, is now a five time world champion. Reigns recently finished what was arguably the best title reign in modern WWE.
Moxley spoke of the success of Rollins and Reigns in WWE.
It’s really cool what they’ve achieved. We were nobodies. We came in with attitude, and we pretty well said, “We’re coming, f—-you, and we’re going to take this sh–over.” The more time passes, the more evident it is that we did what we said.
Both Reigns, and Rolls lost their world titles on WrestleMania night two. Six days later, Moxley won IWGP World Heavyweight Championship in NJPW Windy City Riot. This win makes him the only wrestler in history to hold world titles from WWE, AEW and NJPW.
Moxley continued:
I’m the only guy who has held all three titles-WWE, AEW and IWGP. It’s humbling to find yourself in this position. With the IWGP title it’s a whole new world, an opportunity of a lifetime. So I’m storming the f —— Castle.
Tonight, Moxley will make his first defense of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at AEW Dynamite. He’ll be defending against Powerhouse Hobbs.
Moxley continued:
I have to finish Hobbs on Dynamite before I can return to Japan and bring the championship back with me. I’m not afraid of the opportunity. I feel more confident when the ball is in my hands. Let it fall to my shoulders. I’ll be the one to take all the blame if something goes wrong. I’m more comfortable when things go wrong. Many people want to be in these positions, but when they arrive they realize it is much harder than they imagined.
Nothing lasts forever. You can’t bring anything with you to the grave. The world keeps spinning even when you give everything back to the universe. It could last for three weeks, or it could last for three years, but to be in this situation means as much to as anything I’ve had in wrestling.
