Jon Moxley believes that it is important for AEW to always distinguish itself from the competition.
Moxley discussed AEW’s personality in an interview with Comicbook.com that took place on Tuesday. He cited the Texas death match between Swerve Strickland, Hangman Page and Full Gear as a great example of what AEW is capable of.
Moxley said AEW is able to consistently deliver things like that. Moxley believes it’s crucial that AEW never forgets where it all began, which was a need for an alternative to the pro wrestling industry
When it comes matches like that, there’s a small thing we can do differently from anyone else in this sh*t. I remember telling Tony [Khan] about that when I came in. If you want to put me in a match, you should be careful because I don’t like to disappoint. I’m not going to spout some taglines like, I’m gonna crush your skull with your fingers and pull out all your eyeballs.
AEW has consistently delivered on this. I think it is very important that we never forget where this all began, which was a need for an alternative in the industry. We should always be unique. We should always think about what we can offer that no one else can. We’re not just another wrestling company. There are a million of them.
Not every match has to end with the heads of each player being chopped off. But that’s a small thing, and I feel like I’ve held up my end in that small part of the business. If you’re not the first in your category, then create a new one.
Moxley was also asked about CM Punk’s WWE return promo that aired on Monday’s episode Raw.
“You don’t care what I think.” Moxley replied, “I didn’t see that.” “You don’t want to know what you think (laughs)”
Moxley is a competitor in AEW’s Continental Classic tournament. He won the first round of the tournament last week by beating Mark Briscoe in Dynamite.
