John Cena’s post-ring career: “I always wanted to be involved in business” in todays Wrestling news
Cena recently appeared on Impaulsive, with Logan Paul.
John Cena has said that he will always be involved in the business even after his ring career is finished.
Cena was a guest in an episode of Impaulsive that was released on Wednesday. During the interview he was also asked if he planned to wrestle again.
Cena replied:
Yes, I do hope so. I’m not officially finished. I know I’m getting close, buddy, I can feel it. I love seeing Logan Paul out there doing amazing stuff. Just our talent, the product is so crisp, so fast, and so skilled. It’s a whole new world.
He was asked if he’d consider taking on a role as an executive with WWE after his in-ringing career.
Cena replied:
No, I would give my time to the business. I live close to the Performance Center, and I’d like to visit as a guest. That way, I am not obligated, and they are not either. It’s something I do in my spare time. I love to go in and pick people’s minds and have conversations about “So, who you are?” They’ll say, “What has that got to do with anything?” Oh, everything. Let’s talk.
Cena continued:
I’ve always wanted to be involved in business. It’s something I love, and I’m passionate about it. I think I’ve got some wisdom to pass on that shouldn’t die with me. So I’m going try to do that.
Cena also discussed how he defines the John Cena persona.
Cena said
John Cena’s existence in the WWE is easy to define for me, (he is) Superman. And I don’t just mean that I’m faster or stronger than a bullet or a train. Superman is a man of pure virtue. He has a moral code. Superman can be in conflict, but his north star is his moral code.
Cena continued:
Superman has changed over the years. The Superman from 2012, when everyone was sick of my winning. They were sick of Superman. That’s the problem with Superman forever, he is too good.
Now, an older Superman is looking into the mirror and saying, “I used to be this, but I’m no longer this. What am I now?”
I’m trying it out and I need your help. ‘Hey guys! I don’t have much time left’, and I gauge their interest based on that.
He says that the John Cena fans see on TV is very close to the real John Cena.
Cena continued:
The person in front of you is me. The person you see on WWE is more me than ever before. I don’t have any idea what the future holds and I’m not sure if I will ever be required to take this character or arc anywhere else.
Cena’s desire to become more relevant in China through the breaking down of language barriers was also discussed.
Cena said
I can’t tell you how much i love WWE. It’s not just about loving my time on the ring. It’s also about loving the business. WWE has never been able penetrate China.
They don’t get it. They think it is a Kung Fu adventure, but they don’t really know if it is real. It’s one of the few places in the world where people don’t really understand. All other countries except China. I thought that if one of WWE’s top superstars could overcome the language barrier, we might be able to gain some relevancy there. And with relevancy, we might be able to attract some homegrown talent. With homegrown talent, you might have some influence in this field. We were talking about Prime and how to get locations. I was trying to use my own name as a means to get us there, but it didn’t go well.
We also discussed manifesting stuff, but it failed. This was eight years’ worth of labor that failed. I’ve not stopped learning because I love the skill. I don’t do this anymore because I think ‘this will be useful for me someday’. I want to keep my mind sharp and I don’t want to forget what I’ve already learned.
