The first match for NJPW’s biggest show of 2025 will be held at the Tokyo Dome, on January 4, 2025.
NJPW announced the bout on its website and in a news release after EVIL challenged Hiroshi Takahashi, company president and all-time great, to a Wrestle kingdom bout earlier this week.
Tanahashi surprised everyone by announcing that he would be retiring from the ring on January 4, 2026. His retirement match is scheduled for Wrestle kingdom 20. EVIL announced his intention to retire ‘The Ace’ ahead of schedule and threw the gauntlet down for the Tokyo Dome.
The Wrestle kingdom 19 lineup is still in flux, after Zack Sabre Jr., the winner of the 2024 G1 Climax, chose to cash in his IWGP World Heavyweight Title shot at KOPW rather than waiting for the Tokyo Dome or Wrestle King as has been the tradition.
The Wrestle dynasty event, also scheduled for January 5, at the Tokyo Dome, further clouds the forecast of the Wrestle kingdom card. All of NJPW’s partner promotions are included in this event which opens up the possibility of many interpromotional fantasy matches.
The card so far for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19 set for Saturday, January 4, 2025:
