Gunther speaks to Sports Illustrated about the title defense this Saturday.
Gunther will be facing The Miz for the first ever time at WWE Survivor Series, this weekend.
Gunther will defend his Intercontinental title in Saturday’s premium live event at Rosemont, Illinois. Gunther was interviewed in advance of the match by Sports Illustrated. Gunther expressed his excitement to share the ring with Miz.
Gunther said, “I am looking forward to the chance to be in the ring against one of the biggest stars of the last 10 years.” “I’m excited to prove myself against him.”
Gunther said that there will be a clash in styles when the two face off, Miz representing a more traditional WWE style of sports entertainment.
Gunther stated, “I’m a different kind of WWE guy.” “I developed and established myself far from WWE. Miz is different. He’s a living example of the effectiveness of the WWE system. He’s the most decorated wrestler they’ve ever had. It will be a clash between styles.”
Gunther said that while the matchup is a clash of styles, Miz will need to show a different side at Survivor Series.
“It’s awesome when I hear ‘Here is your match, make sure it’s exciting.’ I tell a lot of stories in the ring. Gunther said that this is what makes the Survivor Series stand out. “Miz’s rah rah stuff he does usually, that won’t work against me.” He’s going to need to show a different side in order to wrestle me.
Miz was crowned the Intercontinental champion after he defeated Bronson Reed and Ivar in a four-way match two weeks ago. Last Monday, Miz defeated Ivar in a singles match.
Gunther is now the Intercontinental Champion of more than 500 days. His reign began in June 2022 when he defeated Ricochet at SmackDown.
Gunther is currently not able to wrestle outside the United States. However, Gunther told Sports Illustrated he will be at WWE’s Bash In Berlin premium live event taking place in Germany in August of 2024.
Gunther said, “I am applying for my greencard.” “You can’t stop the process during that time. But the PLE takes place in August. It should be done by then.”
