Gunther hopes his WWE Raw match with Finn Balor was not a one-off.
Gunther and Balor met for the first time in a one on one match on Monday. Gunther won when Balor fell asleep in a sleeper. Gunther refused to let go of the sleeper after the match. Damian Priest made the save after a brawl with Gunther in preparation for SummerSlam.
Gunther told Sports Illustrated he was looking forward to facing Balor, and hoped they would have a proper program against each other in the future.
Gunther said, “I was excited to wrestle Finn Balor. We’d just arrived from Japan for Raw. “Years back, he came from New Japan and WWE to wXw. I’ve known him for a long time and I’ve always admired him as a wrestler. He is one of the greatest European wrestlers to ever exist, and he did things his way. It was a great experience to wrestle with a professional wrestler of such high caliber.
“The match was just what was needed for the occasion.” I hope that we can achieve our potential in the future with a proper programme.
Gunther and Balor had originally been scheduled to face off at NXT UK: TakeOver: Dublin 2020, but this event never took place due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
Gunther will challenge Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship this Saturday at SummerSlam. Priest and Balor share a stable in Judgment Day.
