Gunther is crowned WWE King in the Ring in todays Wrestling news
Gunther has become WWE royalty after his victory over Randy Orton.
Gunther won the King of the Ring finals at WWE King & Queen of the Ring, Saudi Arabia. Gunther and Orton were facing off for the first time. Gunther kicked Orton out of a RKO, and then used a cross pin to beat him.
Orton was selling both back and knee injuries. The story was that Orton could not get leverage after hitting the RKO because he couldn’t put his injured leg down on the mat. Orton also hit an RKO earlier in the match, but was too injured to immediately go for a pin.
Gunther will be able to compete for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam in August as the King of the Ring champion. Damian Priest, the current champion, will defend his title against Drew McIntyre next month at Clash at The Castle.
Paul “Triple H’ Levesque awarded Gunther the King of the Ring Crown after he defeated Orton. Gunther then made a promo in which he promised to become the World Heavyweight Champion.
Nia Jax, the Queen of the Ring champion, will be competing for the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam. The PLE will take place in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, August 3rd.
Gunther is WWE’s first King of the Ring tournament since Xavier Woods in 2021. Gunther’s win against Sheamus was followed by victories over Kofi Kingston and Jey Uso.
