One of the most famous fights from recent UFC history has been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The first-ever Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen fight was announced during Saturday’s UFC 300. It will be part this year’s class at the June 27th ceremony. It will be in their Fight Wing.
The 2017 fight for Silva’s middleweight title was one the most anticipated bouts at the time, due to the emotional build-up and trash-talking that preceded it.
The verbose Sonnen, who had won three straight fights, was aiming to win his first UFC championship after a three-fight winning streak. He was also looking to dethrone Silva – a 12-fight winner with six consecutive title defenses – and arguably the world’s best fighter at that time.
In August 2010, Sonnen and Silva met at UFC 117. Sonnen used his wrestling to dominate Silva for almost five rounds. It looked like a major upset would be in the works.
With less than two minutes left, Silva had Sonnen in a triangle-armbar submission. The challenger was forced to tap, only the second time ever in UFC history that such a submission ended a fight.

Many media outlets named this fight Fight of the Night as well as Fight of the Year. The UFC dodged a bullet when Sonnen tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone, which cancelled plans for a rematch.
Silva won the UFC 148 in July 2012 by TKO in the second round.
The fight is part of the inductions of Wanderlei Silva Frankie Edgar, and Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
