El Hijo del Vikingo, who was injured, has vacated the AAA Mega Championship.
Vikingo had surgery last month to repair a meniscus tear and a ruptured cruciate ligament that he sustained in a match on February 17 at Arena Lopez Mateos. The return date of Vikingo is not known.
AAA has announced a new champion who will be crowned on April 27 at Triplemania XXXII Monterrey.
On Saturday’s show in Mexico City, a triple threat was held. The winner qualified for the AAA Mega Championship Match at Triplemania Monterrey. Alberto El Patron defeated Cibernetico, and Psycho Clown in order to earn a place in the title match at Triplemania Monterrey next month.
Vikingo’s title tenure ends after 833 days, and 23 total defenses. After a multi-year reign, he is the second Mega Champion in a row to vacate his title due to injury.
Former champion Kenny Omega relinquished his belt in November 2021, after having held it since beating Rey Fenix to win it at AAA Heroes Immortales XIII.
