El Desperado takes leave from NJPW for meniscus surgery in todays Wrestling news

El Desperado takes a break.

NJPW announced Monday that Desperado will be taking a medical leave to undergo surgery for a medial hemispheric injury that has been bothering him for the last six months.

According to NJPW, Desperado announced the news on his YouTube channel. He felt that, between his match against Chris Brookes on Sunday in DDT and the G1 Climax Tournament starting, this was the best moment to take some time off and concentrate on regaining the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title.

The website writes:

Desperado said that the G1 Climax, which saw heavyweights taking center stage, was a perfect time for him to take a break after wrestling Chris Brookes. Desperado said that he gave it his all in the first half of the season and was satisfied with the results. However, he felt the time had come for him to undergo surgery and take a leave of absence indefinitely before returning to ‘take the title back, to win next year’s Best of the Super Jr., and to do more to inspire’.

Desperado won the Best of the Super Juniors Tournament this year and defeated SHO in order to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title at NJPW Soul, on June 16. He lost the title to DOUKI on July 5 in his first defense.
