The show is expected to do better than WrestleDream last month.
The show is expected do better than WrestleDream, which aired last month.
Meltzer said that because of the holiday our information was received earlier than usual, so there were more variables at play. “The only information we have is that streaming appears to be at least 15 percent higher than WrestleDream, and could even be over 20 percent.”
The numbers for cable and satellite PPV are incomplete at the moment due to Thanksgiving. Meltzer says that the early estimates don’t include one major system with which AEW “usually does not do well.”
“But based upon the numbers we have, compared to the number of days following the show, they are up 33.3% from the same period in WrestleDream. But WrestleDream didn’t also do well on cable/sat. They are down 17.1 % from Forbidden Door in the same period.”
The key factor is how well the late purchases do.
Meltzer notes that while Full Gear received a positive reaction overall, it wasn’t the “show of the years” buzz which has previously driven late pay per view buys for AEW. There was a lot more talk about the matches between Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman page, and MJF vs. Jay White after the show, which could have an impact on late buys.
AEW WrestleDream has been estimated to have made 110,000 purchases. According to estimates from September, All In purchases were estimated to be between 180,000 and 196 000 and All Out purchases between 73,000 and 96 000.
