Earl Hebner, of all people, helped “Speedball” Mike Bailey reclaim the TNA X-Division Championship after he regained the title at Slammiversary, in Montreal, Canada, Bailey’s home town.
Hebner was knocked out late in the match, so Ali asked him to come out and shoot Bailey. Hebner had to call the match, as he had done in the infamous 1997 WWE Montreal Screwjob with Bret Hart & Shawn Michaels. Hebner hesitated and refused, which infuriated Ali.
Bailey fought back and then locked on to his own sharpshooter, which won him the match.
Bailey is defending his title for the second time. His first title run was in October 2022, when he held it for 110 days.
Ali’s reign ends after 149 days. He won his first gold medal from Chris Sabin in February at No Surrender. He successfully defended his title seven times.
It’s now the third time that the title has changed on the pay-per view. There are two new titles: Tag Team Champions, and Digital Media/International Heavyweight Champion.
