Drew McIntyre continued to troll CMPunk ahead of the SummerSlam match. He took things a step further on Thursday.
McIntyre posted a photo of him and AEW wrestler Jack Perry. McIntyre captioned the photo with “It’s a true photo, cry us a River.” McIntyre played off friction between Punk and Perry within AEW. The two had a backstage fight at All In in 2017 that led to Punk being fired from AEW.
The disagreements between Punk, Perry and AEW Collision stemmed from Punk refusing to use glass in a spot that Perry wanted on AEW collision. Perry said to the camera: “You know what you’re looking at right here?” While facing Hook in All In 2023. Real glass. Punk confronted Perry after the match, telling him to “cry me a river.”
AEW aired footage from the Punk-Perry altercation that took place on Dynamite in April.
McIntyre will face Punk on Saturday, August 3, at WWE SummerSlam. In the storyline, these two have been fierce rivals for many months. McIntyre trolled Punk repeatedly on social media throughout their show, including bringing Punk’s real life rivalry with Colt Cabana up in a recent tweet.
Punk has been out of the ring since January due to a torn triceps. He’s now cleared to return. Seth Rollins is the special guest referee of Punk vs. McIntyre’s SummerSlam match.
