Drew McIntyre has defeated CM Punk.
McIntyre pins Punk in WWE SummerSlam, Cleveland, Saturday. Seth Rollins was the special guest referee.
Rollins had multiple opportunities to give either competitor an edge. Rollins instead called the bout evenly.
Rollins won the match after he put on the bracelet McIntyre had taken from Punk during their feud. Punk set up McIntyre for a GTS but gave up when he saw Rollins wearing the friendship bracelet.
McIntyre then pushed Punk into Rollins. Punk smacked McIntyre in the face with the GTS while Rollins was out of the ring. Rollins, however, was late in counting. Punk then hit Rollins’s head with a GTS.
McIntyre, with the referee on his back, delivered a low punch to Punk before delivering a Claymore Kick. Rollins was revived to count the pin and McIntyre stood with his foot on Punk’s chest.
The match was full of homages to SummerSlam 1997, when Bret Hart and The Undertaker fought, with Shawn Michaels as the guest referee. From Punk’s ringwear to Rollins stopping McIntyre using a chair to hit Punk, the bout was filled to the brim with homages.
