Drew McIntyre believes that his current WWE character is not limited in what it can do.
McIntyre’s character has been rejuvenated since he became a heel in WWE. He’s become a troll over the past few weeks, even going so far as to try and visit Mindy’s Bakery before Raw’s Monday night episode. CM Punk famously ate a muffin from Mindy’s during his rant in AEW’s All Out media scrum.
McIntyre told CBS Sports that he feels “100%” like he has improved as a performer in the last few months. McIntyre was proud of his work before this, but he knew there was a limit he could not cross. McIntyre feels that these limitations no longer exist.
I am 100 percent committed, mainly because I feel energized in a way that I haven’t felt in a very long time. I have to go back to my first independent run, when I found myself. I was relaxed and didn’t worry about anything but telling the truth. Over the last few years, I was a smiling swordman, proud of my work, but I also had a line that I could not cross. There were certain things that were always done. We had to stick to the rules.
It feels like there are no limits. There are no right or incorrect answers. There are no right or wrong answers. Stay on point and stay within the story. If you have an original idea, go for it. If it succeeds, it’s all your fault. If it fails, it’s your fault. All I ever asked in my career was that it should fall on me.
McIntyre will challenge Seth Rollins to the World Heavyweight Championship on Sunday, April 7, at WrestleMania night two. Punk was announced as part of the commentary for the match last night. Punk was originally supposed to face Rollins at WrestleMania, but he suffered a torn right triceps during the Royal Rumble.
