Gulak sent a statement on Wednesday to X.
Drew Gulak responded to Ronda Roussy’s allegation that he pulled on her pants drawstrings inappropriately backstage at a WWE show.
During a NewsNation appearance on Tuesday, Rousey claimed that while she was waiting outside a WWE writer’s room to speak with Triple H, someone grabbed the strings of her sweatpants and walked away. She would later identify the person as Gulak.
Rousey said that:
I was standing in the hallway and this guy, who I barely knew, grabbed the string of my sweatpants. Nobody reacted as if it was abnormal. He was walking down the hall. I was like “what the f*ck was that? Why are you grabbing my sweatpants’ string? Would you feel comfortable grabbing the string from my sweatpants if my husband was standing next to me? All the guys around were saying, “This is just part of the day.” What happens to the other girls when you’re not around?
Gulak wrote on Wednesday to X that the entire situation was an accident for which he had already apologized.
Gulak wrote the following:
I saw Ronda in the hallway of a WWE event backstage in 2022. She was talking to a group. I stopped to shake their hands and to say hello to Ronda. In my attempt to shake her, I accidentally touched the drawstring. I apologized for the accident.
Rousey said later that she confronted Gulak following the incident. She continued:
I said, “If I ever hear you touching another woman in this way or doing anything to my like this again…we are going to have a big problem.” He said, “No, no no, I am glad you told me something” and he retreated. It left me with a bad taste in my mouth, about the culture and what was acceptable. I also had a negative impression of how women were treated in the halls.
