Dani Luna on TNA Wrestling being ‘exactly’ what he needed after WWE NXT’s UK run in todays Wrestling news
Luna revealed that she grew up quickly during her NXT UK days.
Dani Luna, 24 years old, has been wrestling for almost a decade. But it feels as if her career is just beginning.
Luna began her training at 16 years old. She got her first big break in the now-defunct WWE NXT UK at 19 years old, just three short years after she started.
Luna is now a full-time TNA Wrestling member with title aspirations for 2024.
In our 20-minute video interview, which you can view on YouTube, Luna and myself discussed her TNA pay per view debut in a high risk match, her NXT UK journey, and the goals mentioned above.
She says that TNA is exactly what she needs at this stage of her career.
“It was more terrifying than anything.”
The native of England signed with TNA Wrestling on December 20, 2023, after working for the company in both Canada and the UK earlier that year.
She made her PPV debut at January’s Hard to Kill, competing in an Ultimate X with five other women to win a future Knockouts championship.
She said that the opportunity was “cool,” but it was also “terrifying” because she was afraid of falling off the structure. She wished she would have done it earlier in the match so she could get it out.
“…The fear that you will fall off is worse than the actual act of falling. It was amazing…the number of things you could do in a match. There are so many ways around it. Think of all the things that you can do during a match, and then add six more people. Then add this huge structure where you can all hang from …..
“And I was sharing it also with some incredible women, many of whom I had never wrestled before. That was a whole other thing. It was a crazy experience. It was great fun, but I think I’d do another one but not a lot of them.”
TNA was celebrating a milestone as this was their first match after their rebranding from Impact Wrestling to their iconic naming scheme. Luna was not unaware that this match was the first to be shown on a PPV.
“It really threw me into the deep end just a little bit.” It was the first time TNA had held a PPV, and I was one of the first faces they saw. They might not even have heard of me. It was a great way to showcase my talents in an exciting way.
Luna is only a few months into her TNA career, but she has already made a friend with Jody Threat. Last month, the two formed a team and Threat supported her after she defeated Killer Kelly at Thursday’s Impact. She hopes that this partnership will be fruitful in the future.
“I don’t believe that winning the Knockouts tag team championships in 2024 is completely out of the blue. I think it’s absolutely something we can do. I think TNA is building a really strong tag division now, and I’d love to be able to do it with her on a larger stage. She’s my favorite person in the world, so I would love for us to win gold in TNA together this year.”
The NXT years
Luna became a wrestling fan when she was 14, after her brother introduced it to her. She was 16 when she started wrestling school two years later. Three years later, she signed a WWE contract for the NXT UK Brand where she lived from 2019 to 2022.
She continued to say that, while she learned much in NXT UK she was too young for a stage at that level. It was a lot of pressure.
“I didn’t think I would be ready for such a stage at my age or experience level. But it gave me many tools that I can now bring to a place like TNA, where I am a little more mature, a little more experienced, and much more prepared for it.”
