Due to travel issues, World Heavyweight champion Damian Priest was unable to make his scheduled appearance at Madison Square Garden Friday night.
Priest was supposed defend his title in a dark match against Jey Uso after WWE SmackDown ceased to air. Priest tried to make it to the show in New York City, but he was unable to do so despite his best efforts. The plane had problems, which caused his flight to be delayed. Priest apologized to his fans via Twitter just before 7 pm Eastern time. He also informed them that the plane still hadn’t taken off.
Priest wrote: “Unfortunately, the honor of being the main event at The Garden tonight is not possible,” Priest wrote. “We still haven’t taken flight. Stuck in a plane on a runway. I am very disappointed and apologize to my family. This one hurts. Enjoy the show! #SmackDown will be awesome, I’m sure.”
The main event of the dark match was a streetfight in which Uso defeated Finn Balor. There was also a match in which The Miz & R Truth defeated Pretty Deadly.
Priest is the World Heavyweight champion and one of the most prominent stars on the Raw roster. Priest will defend his title against Seth Rollins on July 6 at Money in the Bank. The winner will defend his title against Gunther in SummerSlam.
