Conor McGregor’s return has been postponed because of injury. A new main event is set for UFC 303 in todays UFC news
Conor McGregor won’t be fighting in UFC 303.
UFC head Dana White announced on X on Thursday night that McGregor had been injured. He then moved on to promote the new main event, which will feature reigning UFC heavyweight champion Alex Pereira defending his title against former champion Jiri Prchazka. The co-main event will feature Brian Ortega vs. Diego Lopes.
The show will take place at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday, June 29, as part of International fight Week. The high ticket prices for McGregor’s return led to a $20 million gate at the show in mid-May. Due to Nevada’s policy, the show will be required to offer refunds to fans who choose to do so.
Ariel Helwani delved deeper into the reasons why McGregor’s fight against Michael Chandler was postponed, with an aim of either August or September. Helwani reported that McGregor became injured a few days before the UFC press conference in Dublin (Ireland) that was cancelled. The exact injury has not yet been disclosed. He said that all parties attempted to save the fight but it was pulled within the last 48-hours.
After the cancellation of the press conference, all sides were relatively quiet. Helwani said the new main event would be a great choice, but it had to overcome a few hurdles. The champion was in Australia for seminars and was recovering from broken toes.
McGregor was set to fight for the first time since he lost to Dustin Poirier in July 2021 at UFC 264, while Chandler (the former Bellator light-weight champion) had been on a break since November 2022 when he lost to Poirier again at UFC 281.
