Cody Rhodes felt a bit guilty’ over non-PG WWE promotional line in todays Wrestling news
Rhodes was recently featured on the SI Media Podcast.
Cody Rhodes said he “felt a bit guilty” over a non PG promo he made leading up to WrestleMania.
Rhodes addressed The Rock in an in-ring segment during the March 18 edition WWE Raw. One line that was a big hit was Rhodes’ question to Rock about whether he would bring “Big Dwayne energy” or “LDS” to WrestleMania.
Rhodes said:
What happens when the bell rings, Rock? Are you going to bring the Great One? Are you going be the hero that I grew up with? Will you have the Big Dwayne Energy that I had growing up? Or will it be LDS – little dick syndrome? !
Rhodes discussed the promo in a recent podcast with SI Media. He told Jimmy Traina he was concerned about the reaction of his younger fans to the segment.
Rhodes said:
The fans in the arena loved this. This interview was a great experience. I felt guilty, however, because I have many young, very young fans, and I wouldn’t want them to ask about ‘LDS,’ or anything else.
My time with WWE was really aimed at the family audience and these little kids. I wouldn’t want them to be misled in any way, and I hope that the interview didn’t make them turn away from me, if they are my guy. Everyone was so excited about it. My wife was also a fan. I remember feeling a little guilty.
Rhodes also spoke of the #WeWantCody campaign that arose after the February 2 WWE SmackDown, when it appeared Rock had taken Rhodes’ place in the WrestleMania main event. When asked what role he had backstage when WWE decided to have him vs. Reigns in the Mania main event, Rhodes replied that his role was “to stay silent throughout the chaos.”
Rhodes said:
I was supposed to remain silent during the chaos. I don’t stay silent all the time, I mean here we are talking, I’m active on social media but sometimes you have to shut up. This was a great moment when I shut up and all these people came forward.
I wondered if I could calm the storm. I think I did. I sent out a message saying, “Hey, calm yourself down.”
It’s flattering no doubt, but I don’t like anyone getting excessive heat or anything else in that space.
I decided to keep quiet and in a strange way, despite having won the Royal Rumble and being in the last row with CM Punk, who had the opportunity to win it himself, I still thought that everything would be fine. I think I was in denial because many people around me were angry, but I thought it would be okay. It will work out.
DDP is so positive. I’m not. I feel like I am in the middle. He’s positive. He said to me that no matter what happened to me, it would be the best thing to happen. I was angry at his answer. What does it mean? He told me this and he was right.
During the interview, Rhodes also discussed his relationship with Paul Heyman and how his father was the one who brought Heyman to book meetings. Rhodes believes that if the circumstances had been different, he would have made a great Paul Heyman Guy.
Rhodes said:
In another life, I would have been the best Paul Heyman Guy. I could have been the best Paul Heyman Guy, but it didn’t happen that way. It turned out that Roman Reigns was his number one wrestler of all time.
