CM Punk updates on recovery after triceps operation in todays Wrestling news
Punk said that he will likely be out of action for six to eight months.
CM Punk spoke about his injury status during UFC 298 on Sunday.
Caroline Pearce, TNT Sports’ backstage reporter at Anaheim Honda Center, spoke with Punk after the event. He was asked to comment on his recent surgery, his return to WWE and WrestleMania.
Punk replied that they were looking at a return time of six to eight months.
I’m a clumsy fool and I tore my left triceps about two or three years ago, so the right one got jealous. I’m an old car. I’m a 72 Nova. You know what I mean. Every now and then, we have to replace some parts. We’ll be fine once we fix all the parts.
We’re thinking about six to eight months, but I am not in a hurry to compete. I’m more in a hurry to get healthy and better, the sooner I can do that, the better off I will be when I return.
Punk was asked “what made him itchy” to return to wrestle.
He replied:
I burned out 10 years ago. I left and did other things. I did a lot of other cool stuff, and then time healed all wounds. You start to realize how little the things that happened 10 or more years ago matter. People come and go. Different people are in control now. Maybe I can go back, and it will fit like an old slipper. It’s great to be back, and I’m so happy that it happened. The way I came back, and how big it has been, would not have been possible without all the other crap. So, it’s just the way of life. I woke this morning, and it’s been a good one.
Punk also commented about The Rock’s return in WWE.
I think it’s great. Ten years ago, I was the guy who was wrestling The Rock in his return. Now, 10 years later, he’s returning and I think that the landscape has changed completely. WrestleMania now takes place over two nights, and it’s bigger. His return only helps. I always say that high tide lifts all boats. I’m happy that, even though I am hurt, I will still be in the mix. I still have a working mouth, so I can still talk trash.
I don’t think you saw our kickoff in Vegas with Rock, Roman and Seth & Cody. It was a lot fun and I hope I can continue doing that while I recover because I’m always able to talk trash with them.
Steve Austin has recently spoken about a possible WrestleMania match in the future. Austin did not rule out the possibility of a WrestleMania match with Punk in the future. He said, “I like Punk and I think Punk is fond of me — as long as he’s able to take a [Stone Cold] Stunner.” I consider him to be a good friend, a nice guy and a wrestler with a long career. We’ll see.”
