Claudio Castagnoli, who won a title shot against the reigning AEW Continental champion Kazuchika Okada in last Saturday’s Collision match, has announced his shot for the match. The first-ever Dynamite event will be held in Cardiff, Wales.
Castagnoli made the challenge in a backstage segment during Saturday’s Collision. He said he wanted to be the champion before this year’s Continental Classic, and he had the perfect place for it: the first ever Dynamite in Europe, on Wednesday, August 21st.
On Wednesday’s Dynamite, Okada and Castagnoli will face off. It will be their very first singles match when they square off.
Castagnoli defeated Tomohiro Ishii in a three way match and Ring of Honor Pure Championship Lee Moriarty to earn this opportunity. Despite holding the ROH World Title during the Tony Khan era of the company, AEW Gold has eluded Castagnoli in his long-term tenure with the company.
Okada will defend his title for the third time, having won it in March against Eddie Kingston. This is Okada’s first match since mid-May.
