Chris Jericho loves to make people angry.
Jericho appeared yesterday on KCAL News Los Angeles to promote tonight’s AEW dynamite at the KIA Forum. During the interview he talked about his recent heel-turn and transition into “The Learning Tree.”
Jericho said, “The most important thing about wrestling is to understand the concepts behind being a good person, and when this gets stale, the concept of being a villain.”
“People refer to (wrestling) as a soap opera. In this way, it’s a soap opera. You know, at first he is a good person and then something happens and suddenly you don’t like to be around him. You have to be able read the room,” he continued.
When the host of a show suggested that Jericho is too “lovely”, to be hated he replied:
“Well, I am a very charming person. It’s hard to imagine that people don’t like me, but they do. It’s okay. That’s the beauty in wrestling. You just lean in and I take great pleasure, kind of, making other people angry because that’s what I want to do. I’m playing a character. Chris Jericho in AEW is different from the Chris Jericho we are talking about right now. That’s how it should be. “Wrestling is about a larger-than life character and I embrace it wholeheartedly.”
Jericho will debut a new segment tonight on AEW Dynamite called “TV Time with the Learning Tree Chris Jericho”. He just won his FTW title at Double or Nothing against Hook and Katsuyori Schibata on Sunday.
