Chris Jericho hopes to face Mark Briscoe, FTR, and Swerve Strickland in AEW.
In an interview published by the Dallas Morning News this week, Jericho answered a question about possibly facing Adam Copeland at AEW. Jericho stated that he is sure he would have a great match with people like Copeland or Christian Cage but he has wrestled them many times. Jericho wants to wrestle newer opponents.
Jericho listed Strickland as one of his favorite opponents.
There is no time limit on what I am doing. There’s probably no hurry. I have a completely different opinion. I’ve wrestled Adam Copeland and Christian so often that I would prefer not to wrestle against them. We could have a great match, I mean, it’s obvious. But I enjoy working with people that I’ve never worked with before. Swerve Strickland I think is amazing. Mark Briscoe, to name a few guys I haven’t stepped into the ring with, is amazing. You know, both of those guys would make for a lot fun matches. I think that’s a pretty cool place to look at right now.
We’ve got a ton of stuff going on, including the Golden Jets, with Big Bill and Ricky Starks as well as Will Hobbs and Takeshita. I’d like to play a match against FTR. It would be awesome. I’ve never played a tag-team match against them. Jets versus FTR sounds amazing. There are a few matches that Kenny and myself could play in the chamber before we decide on the next step.
The Golden Jets, Jericho & Kenny Omega, are the current number one contenders for Ricky Starks & Big Bill’s AEW tag team titles. The Young Bucks were defeated by Jericho & Omega at the Full Gear pay-per view last month.
Jericho told The Dallas Morning News he believes that Omega’s transition from a rival into a tag team partner was a natural progression in their story.
There weren’t many matches in Japan. Only one was held at the Tokyo Dome, in January 2018. I think it was one of the most significant matches in pro-wrestling history. I think that the business we did in New Japan was what really made people take notice. Match was a classic. It was also the match where people in the U.S., including Tony Khan, realized there was a huge market for another wrestling organization because the North American business for that match was enormous. I think that the foundation of AEW has been built in many ways by Jericho and Omega.
It was only natural that Kenny and Jericho would eventually become a team. Wrestling is about stories. I think that when we began this thing, with Don Callis, on my side, and then Kenny, on his, the bottom-line would always be us two aligning ourselves against him.
Starks & Big Bill will be facing Jericho & Omega for the Tag Team title at AEW Worlds End, on Saturday December 30.
