Bryan Danielson is at peace if his career ends this weekend.
Danielson has just six days until his last match. He will be competing against Swerve Strickland at All In for the AEW World Championship. If Danielson loses, he will retire from the ring.
Danielson was asked by BBC Radio, in advance of the pay per view, if he is at peace with the possibility that this could be the end of his career in the ring.
“Yeah. I’m at peace with that.” If I was not at peace with it, would we have done this? “[laughs]”, he said. “But I think — I have been wrestling now for 25 years at this point. For me, winning the AEW world championship is now or never. I came in, and I said that I would kick people’s faces in and win the AEW Championship. And I’ve kicked many people’s head in, but I still haven’t earned a single title.”
The last time Danielson had a title, he held it in 2019, while he was still with WWE. Danielson claimed that AEW’s Alex Marvez informed him that Danielson had lost 19 consecutive title matches dating back to his WWE days.
Danielson wasn’t prepared to lose wrestling when he was forced to retire from the sport in 2016. He’s in a completely different place now. He’s eager to spend more quality time with his family once his time in the ring ends.
“My life has changed a lot, right?” I wasn’t prepared for retirement when I was forced to do so. 2015 was my last match but I was forced into retirement in 2016. Danielson said, “I was 35 years old at the time and I felt like this didn’t feel right. “I also had nothing else to focus my attention and my focus on. Now I have. Now I have an amazing family with whom I am really excited to spend time. It’s a different place if you choose to be there rather than if you are forced.
All In will be held at Wembley Stadium, London on Sunday. Danielson confirmed his wife Brie Garcia, and their children, will be attending. It will be the very first time that his son has seen him wrestle live.
