Hart says that he is grateful for the respect he receives from active wrestlers.
Bret Hart said he feels more popular than ever, thanks to the many wrestlers who pay tribute to him.
Hart was interviewed recently by Fox News Australia as he prepares to visit the country in April for Starrcast Downunder. During the interview, Hart spoke about the respect he receives from wrestlers like CM Punk and FTR.
Hart said
I feel as popular or revered as I have ever been. It’s probably because I get salutes from guys like (CM), Punk, FTR and other wrestlers who mention my name or do something I did in the ring to show me respect. I appreciate it all. I think CM Punk has done a great deal to remind wrestling fans of some of my past work and how good it was.
It’s almost like, in my honest opinion – without trying to sound too proud – they’ve opened up the curtain on wrestling so much. Now we know that the whole thing is a show and they are just really good actors.
You watch my wrestling, and you think, wow, he’s the best. I think I always made it look more natural than anyone else. I made you look good and I made my stuff look great, nothing looked rehearsed. There’s a lot of wrestling today that I think is badly rehearsed.
Serena Deeb, who recently returned to the ring, is another wrestler that pays homage to Hart in many of her matches. One of her signature moves is Hart’s figure four leglock around ring post.
MJF also performed a spoof on a famous Hart vignette at AEW Grand Prix 2023.
The Rock, WrestleMania’s main eventer has said Hart helped him in the early days of his career.
Hart praised Australia’s Rhea Ripley in the interview, as WWE Elimination Chamber is coming to Perth later this month.
Hart said
I like her a great deal. I like her poise and the way she stays in character. She seems to be living her character.
She brings realism to it, which I miss in most wrestling today. She makes it feel real.
