Will Ospreay is a favorite of Billy Gunn.
Gunn recently told Chris Van Vliet that he is amazed by Ospreay’s athleticism. He’s told people that Ospreay’s wrestling would be a great retirement match.
“I don’t understand that kid.” Gunn said, “I love him. I tell everyone that’s my match for retirement.” Will and I will retire together when I do. He said in a media scrum he was in AEW so that he could retire me. Because his work isn’t really me. It’s so different from me. I love him. He’s good. He’s energetic. He’s very energetic. He is so athletic and can do so many things. He’s also very charismatic. And I love it, I don’t even know I just love the kid.”
Gunn said that he has some limitations in the ring at 60, but he still believes he can bring value to acts he works alongside. His last match was at Double or Nothing, where The Acclaimed beat Cage of Agony in the Buy-In. He also ran in at Forbidden door to save The Acclaimed after they were beaten down by The Elite.
“I’m not going to go out and spend 25 minutes with Will [Ospreay], it’s not happening. Do I still own equity in the company if I leave? Can I still bring anything? Damn right,” Gunn continued. “I can, because the moment I step out there, those people go crazy and they start calling my name. As long as I’m bringing value, and it isn’t, you know, when I go out there, and they say, Oh, God, really? The first time I hear this, I’ll quit. As long as I’m able to do something for The Acclaimed, the company, or my kids. I’ll be around. There’s no reason why I can’t. I’m happy to be The Acclaimed’s sidekick. I love it. I love it because I get to run about and talk to people and act like a goofball when I want. I also work occasionally.”
Gunn revealed in the interview that doctors discovered two stress fractures on his back. He said that the injury does not affect his performance in the ring, but it has made traveling more difficult.
“Flying is the only thing that is a struggle these days. Because I hate it. “I’m in as long I can do what I love and have fun, and bring something to the table.
