Big E has not been in action for the past two years because of a broken neck.

Big E decides if he returns to the ring.

Big E has not been in action for more than two full years due to a broken collarbone. He fractured both his C1 and C6 vertebrae in the episode of SmackDown that aired on March 11, 2022. The injury occurred when Big E fell on his head after a belly-to-belly overhead suplex.

Big E has continued to be involved with WWE even after he left the ring. He will be one of the panelists at WrestleMania 40’s pre-show this weekend.

Big E told CBS Sports that he has no update on a possible return to the ring.

We don’t, unfortunately. I appreciate that everyone is still asking. C1 is a difficult bone, and I broke it twice. This is called a Jefferson fracture. So, I’m trying to make the right decision for me and my health. I wish I could give you a better response, but I’m not able to do so at this time.

CBS Sports asked Big E whether he was in charge of making the decision about whether to return to ring or if the decision depended on medical clearance.

The best part is that I believe they put me in charge of this. I listen to my doctors because they know more about my health and future than I do. It’s not like my ability to go to the gym or live my normal life is compromised. But, getting in the boxing ring and taking bumps is a different experience. I’m thrown onto my back, my neck, and my shoulders.

I didn’t start wrestling to end up in a wheel chair or worse. I began wrestling at the age of 23. At 23, I thought that 38 years old, which is my age now, was a long way off. It felt like an eternity. Now, those are things that I am thinking about. It’s something I’ve done my whole life. I played tackle football when I was seven. I don’t recommend it, but I did that at seven. I also wrestled in middle school and high school. I’ve done physical activities my whole life. I never wanted to be crippled or hobbled when I left sports. At 38, these are my considerations. I want to make the best decision I can for my future health and myself. It’s one of those things that I want to do with caution.

Big E told CBS Sports Kevin Nash, “Stone Cold Steve Austin” and Adam Copeland were among the people that reached out to him following his injury. Nash, Austin and Copeland all had neck problems, despite their differences.

Michael Cole, Pat McAfee Big E, CMPunk, Jackie Redmond and Wade Barrett are the hosts of WWE’s WrestleMania pre-shows. The pre-shows will air from 5-7 pm Eastern time on Saturday and Sunday.
