Big E talks about a pitch that he made to the New Day stablemates.
Next month, the WWE Universe will mark two years since Big E last appeared in a wrestling arena. While it is unclear if he’ll ever return to the ring, Big E has given his New Day stablemates Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods the opportunity to temporarily add a member to their group during his absence.
In a recent interview, Big E revealed his proposal to Woods & Kingston. Kingston and Woods have not wavered in their determination to maintain The New Day’s dynamic despite Big E’s absence for almost two years.
“Yeah. It’s been a long time since New Day was in WWE.” We are older, our hairlines look different. It’s been a long journey, and we thought that — for about a year, we’ve kind of been looking at the 10 years, and it’s different. I’m not here. Big E recalled. “I told them too, as long I’m not around, please don’t beholden to you,” Big E recalled. “My voice starts the song every single time, even when I’m not there. I don’t think that’s fair for those guys. [So I said] ‘Hey if you need to fill in with a third person, feel free’, but they were always so insistent about saying, ‘Nah nah nah.’ This is the group, and I am grateful for that.”
As Big E hinted at, 2024 will mark 10 years since Woods, Kingston and Big E joined forces. The trio was initially introduced with a gospel gimmick. However, they eventually shifted their focus to the “power positivity”, which ultimately led to their success. The New Day have won 11 tag team titles in WWE so far, despite their many variations.
