Despite their different promotions, Bayley and Mercedes Mone have a strong bond.
Bayley has been with former Sasha Banks at her most important moments since she left WWE. Bayley was at Mone’s NJPW debut in 2023, and she was in the audience for Mone’s AEW debut this March. Bayley stated in an interview with Denise Salcedo that, while she misses Mone being in WWE, it’s nice that they can help grow women’s wrestlers in two different companies.
“I can’t wait to see her reach the next level.” Even though I miss her, wrestling still feels strange to me without her. It’s almost like I have her, but in a different manner. I can tell what’s happening here and where I need help and what I am trying to do. The same goes for her. It’s nice that we can help and grow in separate companies. Bayley said, “I think it’s better in a sense.”
“I am so proud of her for taking the leap and taking a risk on herself. She has so much more to offer the world. There’s so much more she can do. I’m excited to watch. Now I’m just a fan. “I can’t be her tag-partner anymore, but I get to be her fan.”
Mone won her first AEW bout last month when she defeated Willow Nightingale to win the TBS Championship. Mone will face NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer in a title vs. championship match at AEW x NJPW forbidden door on June 30.
Bayley is also the current gold medalist. She’s defending her WWE Women’s Championship this Saturday against Piper Niven.
