Tony Khan clarified the rules for the Continental Classic.
Tony Khan, AEW’s head, explained how the Continental title would work in relation to this year’s Continental Classic tournament. The “modern” AEW Triple Crown is now a distant memory following Eddie Kingston’s loss against Kazuchika Okada on Wednesday.
Khan stated in an interview released prior to Dynamite that the person who holds the title at the end of November’s Full Gear pay-per view will be guaranteed a spot in the Classic. The titleholder must win the Worlds End pay-per-view tournament final in December to keep the championship.
Okada, who defeated Kingston on Wednesday, became the second titleholder in the history of the Continental championship.
Khan also reiterated the rules for the Continental title: no interference, and no one is allowed at the ringside.
Kingston defeated Jon Moxley to win both the inaugural title as well as the round-robin tournament in December’s Worlds End. Kingston entered the tournament with both his Ring of Honor World and men’s NJPW Strong Openweight titles, winning what Khan called “the Continental Crown”.
Kingston will defend his ROH title next month against Mark Briscoe, while Okada will defend his Continental title next month against PAC in the AEW Dynasty PPV.
