Adam Copeland does not expect to reinvent himself much in his time away from ring.

Copeland broke his tibia in a barbed-wire steel cage match at AEW Double or Nothing. He was facing Malakai Black. After a successful surgery earlier this week, he’s now on the road to recovery.

Copeland was the guest on the Friday episode of Busted Open Radio. During the interview he was asked what his character’s mindset will be going forward, and if he will start a new chapter upon his return. Copeland, 50, said that he believes each injury, at this stage in his career adds to his “grizzled veteran” persona.

“A part of me says, ‘Well you recreate yourself. ‘But each injury adds to the character I was already portraying which — to be honest — at this point is not that different from me,” Copeland said.

“I don’t really know how much I have changed.” I think it’s another instance of a grizzled veteran fighting back against another one.

Copeland cited Chris Jericho’s “Learning Tree” as an example of a successful recreation. However, he does not expect to follow the same path at this time.

He said, “There’s a lot to recreation.” “I don’t think this is the right time for me to do that.”

Copeland fractured his tibia when he jumped from the steel cage, landed on his feet and put Black through a desk. Copeland joked on Busted Open Radio that it was more of a fall than a leap. Your brain tells your that you can do it but when you land, your body remembers that you’re 50. He hoped the injury was not too serious. The injury didn’t seem to hurt much, but the emergency department told him that his leg was broken.

Copeland admits the risk he took by jumping off the cage wasn’t necessary. He’s happy he finished the match, and hopes that it was a reminder of the talents of Malakai Black and House of Black.

“I think I would have gotten the same mileage had I done it off the toprope. Live and learn. “I finished the match at the same time,” Copeland said.

“I hope that this story will also serve as a reminder to what [Malakai] Black can bring to the table. “And kind of just let the people understand, ‘Oh, yeah, by way of this group of badasses who have an insane presentation’.” So, a couple of missions accomplished and a failure.

Copeland’s return to the ring is not known. The injury forced him out of the TNT Championship. The new champion will be determined by a ladder match at Forbidden Door, later this month. KonosukeTakeshita and Mark Briscoe are already qualified.
