The speech was delivered on Dynamite episode 3 April.

Adam Copeland, who opened Dynamite’s show last week with a pro-AEW talk about the importance of this promotion, was a guest on the show.

The speech was a response to CM Punk’s interview on The MMA Hour. Copeland didn’t mention Punk by name, but he did mention “negative BS” which had been spread that week. Copeland said AEW made pro wrestling more fun and better.

Copeland was questioned about the promo in an interview conducted by This is VANCOLOUR on April 8. Copeland explained his thinking by saying that AEW’s locker room, which is made up of young people, needed to hear a message of positivity.

The MMA Hour’s appearance by Punk was two days before Copeland gave his Dynamite speech. Copeland said to This is VANCOLOUR he didn’t watch the entire interview, but he saw clips:

I didn’t see clips. I saw clips. I have better things to do. I really do. I got kids. I don’t care what anyone has to say.

What I will say, however, is that from the small clips I saw scrolling through and stuff, I realized our locker room was in need of a good message. Last week, on our show, i went out and spoke about that. It’s because it’s young locker rooms – and a locker room for me that’s young, and we’re trying to support each other now, because it is a different era. I used to go into locker rooms where everyone was out for themselves. It was a bunch [of great white sharks]. And I never subscribed that. I have always been a Bret Hart fan, who believes that you can’t help but not. You can be positive, you can show young people that you are not a d*ck and you can help them. I don’t really know how to put it.

For me, I just try to focus on the positives. There are so many negatives in our world today. Why not focus on the positives instead? I thought that our young locker room needed some positive reinforcement. That’s why I did what I did the last week. But I don’t have to go looking for the other stuff. I have better things to do. I have kids to put to sleep, the Maple Leafs to follow, and music to listen to.

Punk said on The MMA Hour that AEW was “not a real business.” Punk called Tony Khan “a nice guy,” but said that Khan is not a boss.

Copeland is currently the TNT Champion at AEW. He retained his title against Penta El Zero Miedo in Dynamite on Wednesday.

Officially, a trios match featuring Copeland and Eddie Kingston against House of Black (Malakai Black & Brody King) will take place at the April 21st AEW Dynasty Pay-per-View. Copeland and Willow Nightingale are set to face King & Julia Hart next week in a mixed-tag match on Dynamite.
