Copeland recently spoke to Sports Illustrated.

Adam Copeland discusses the origins of the “Cope Open” in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

Copeland held an open challenge in recent weeks on AEW, participating in matches with Dante Martin and Griff Garrison. Minoru Suzuki, however, is the opponent he faces tonight on Dynamite.

Copeland said, “While the story of Christian is playing out, I thought let’s do a fascinating side story in which no one knows what will happen next.” “The more I thought of it, the more I realized that we could use it to give some young guys a different experience. Then I thought about it more and realized that anyone could be the one. I started throwing out names to see who would bite.

Copeland revealed in a later interview that he had asked Tony Khan if it was possible to wrestle Suzuki in AEW.

Copeland said, “I thought Suzuki would be really cool with me.” “It is something you would never have thought of before. It’s going be hard-hitting. The word that keeps coming up is grizzled. But I never imagined this match would happen.”

“So I asked Tony: ‘Can we buy Suzuki?’ He said that he would find out. “As soon as he heard, literally as soon he got off of the phone, he advertised on air.”

“I was getting ready in the changing room when Moxley said to me: ‘Hey, man, you and Suzuki are going to be there next week.'” He continued. “So, you can imagine my excitement. “I immediately thought, ‘I should make a promo’.”

Khan announced yesterday that Copeland vs. Suzuki, like last week’s main match of Samoa Joe and Hook, will be broadcast commercial-free tonight.

AEW Dynamite will take place tonight at the Enmarket Arena, in Savannah, Georgia. WrestleTix reports that 2187 tickets were distributed for the show this afternoon.
