John Cena’s WWE retirement tour is over. No amount of money will bring him back to the ring.

Cena is planning a retirement tour that will last from January to December of next year. Cena plans to work “in the mid-30s or 40s” of dates. After that, he will step away from the ring as an ambassador for WWE.

Cena stated in an interview with ComicBook.com that his decision to retire is final. He is not going to break the trust that he has built with his fans. After December 2025 he will no longer wrestle for WWE or anyone.

“There’s no check writer with enough cash to change my mind.” It’s not something I want to continue because of ego or money. Over the years, I’ve built a relationship with the WWE that is based on trust and authenticity. That includes people who think I’m a sucka and people who have faith in me. They know I am trustworthy and that I tell them the truth. I am sincere when I say something. When I’m finished in December, that will be it. Cena said, “This is the last time I’ll perform in a boxing ring.”

“I will be a member of WWE family and an ambassador, and I am grateful for that. You will see me wearing this [a suit], and not wristbands or jorts or the ball cap. In December 2025 that will be gone. This is why we are putting so much emphasis on the farewell tour. It’s the last time that grandparents, parents and children will all be together at the same time. Grandparents might say, “I didn’t even know wrestling existed until my son brought me here.” Their son has now had a son and a daughter of his own and they both like John Cena. Now their child likes Cody Rhodes. I want to do something special so that we can all come together and look back on 25 years of memories.

Cena, 47, announced his retirement tour in a surprise appearance last month at Money in the Bank. This was Cena’s first WWE appearance since he appeared at WrestleMania and Raw after WrestleMania in April.

Comicbook.com conducted its interview with Cena during a press junket to promote his new film “Jackpot!”. The movie will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video beginning August 15.
