Kevin Owens was nominated by Rhodes and Nick Aldis as the next challenger to the title during Friday’s SmackDown, after Owens stepped up to Rhodes in an angle with Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline.
Owens refused to accept the title match, claiming that he hadn’t earned it. Rhodes and Aldis insisted that Owens get the shot. Aldis made the title match official during a backstage segment that included Owens and Rhodes.
The second official bout for Bash in Berlin, scheduled for Saturday August 31, is Rhodes defending his Undisputed WWE Championship. Gunther, the new WWE World Heavyweight champion, will defend his title at the event in Germany.
The show will begin streaming at 1 p.m. Eastern Time on Peacock/WWE Network.
