Bryan Danielson would like to see Zack Sabre Jr., his in-ring opponent, win the NJPW G1 Climax.
Sabre is a leading contender to win the G1 as it is in full swing. Danielson told Sports Illustrated he is rooting for Sabre to win the G1 and hopes he becomes IWGP World Heavyweight champion. Sabre is Danielson’s favorite NJPW wrestler.
Danielson said, “As a New Japan fan, I’d love to see Zack Sabre become the IWGP World Heavyweight champion and win the G1.” If you ask me which matches and personalities I enjoy most in New Japan Pro-Wrestling it would be Zack Sabre Jr.
“I don’t understand the business metrics or all that stuff. His interviews are the most compelling for me, in a very genuine way. He’s the one I enjoy watching most.”
The G1 will conclude on August 18. The tournament winner will receive a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleKingdom 19 in January. Tetsuya naito currently holds the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Sabre is the first IWGP World Champion.
Danielson and Sabre will trade victories between 2023-2024. Danielson defeated Sabre at AEW in October last year, and Sabre won their rematch against Sabre in Japan in February.
Danielson’s career in the ring could end later this month at All In. He is going to challenge Swerve Strickland at the pay-per view for the AEW World Championship. If Danielson loses, he’ll retire from the ring.
