Je’Von Evans, a rising NXT star, has secured a spot in the next round for WWE Speed’s number 1 contender’s tournament.
Evans defeated Ashante “Thee” Adonis in the WWE Speed episode which debuted today. The match was taped before SmackDown last week in Cleveland. Evans pinned Adonis with 27 seconds left on the three-minute timer after hitting a cut where he jumped off the top rope.
Evans, 20, will face either Montez or Austin Theory at the next round. Ford vs. The last match of the first round is Theory. It will debut on X/Twitter next Wednesday, August 14, at noon Eastern Time.
The second round matches will be Joaquin Wilde against Pete Dunne, and Evans against Ford or Theory. The tournament winner will face WWE Speed Champion Andrade for the title.
Evans wrestled indies under the name Jay Malachi before signing with WWE. He joined the WWE Performance Center in 2024, and is already featured in the NXT Championship picture. Evans was a part of the fatal four-way title bout at NXT Heatwave, last month. Ethan Page was the winner of that match and is now the NXT Champion.
