Damian Priest spoke with Sports Illustrated regarding the fan support that he has received in recent times.
After the events of WWE SummerSlam Priest is now firmly a babyface on Raw, and heading into a program along with his former Judgment Day teammate, Finn Balor.
“I was a babyface before, but not always.” This is me. Priest said that it was cool to have people supporting me not because I told them to, but simply because they wanted to.
Priest said that while he and Gunther are both strong characters in WWE programming, they’re not “part of the class of main guys.”
“We’re not in that group of main guys.” We are seen as strong characters, but we are not Seth Rollins or Punk. We’re also not Drew or Roman. We’re not the regular programmed guys. We’re not AJ, Randy or Finn. Gunther and I were in this high-profile match for the world title, that was big. It was great to hear my peers talking about how it made them feel.
Priest also talked about winning the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania when he cashed his MITB briefcase for Drew McIntyre who had just beaten Seth Rollins to win the belt moments before.
Priest said, “WrestleMania 40 was a crazy day.” “So many things were already different. As we got closer, many very intelligent people came up to me to say, “Things can still change.” So you never really know. I knew that things could change even at the last minute.”
Priest said, “I’ve accomplished so much but there’s more to come.” “My dream was to wrestle at WrestleMania, and win a title. Now, there are new goals. “I’m more hungry than ever.”
