Bron Breakker achieved it on his second attempt.
Breakker won the Intercontinental title at SummerSlam from Sami Zayn. Zayn took control of the match after breaking a spear and sending Breakker to the turnbuckle. Breakker, however, bounced back to hit two spears and win the title for the very first time.
Zayn ends his reign as Intercontinental Champion after 119 days. He defeated Gunther in WrestleMania, and ended his own historic reign of 666 days. Gunther was the longest-reigning Intercontinental champion.
Diamond Dallas Page and his father Rick Steiner were also seen in the crowd as they celebrated Breakker’s win.
Breakker acted at first as if he didn’t deserve a rematch after losing the title last month at Money in the Bank. Breakker, however, proved that this was a ruse when he jumped Zayn after a confrontation on Raw. This showed he wasn’t finished. Breakker was crowned number one contender on the Raw 22nd edition after defeating Ilja Dragunov.
