CM Punk comments on All In footage, saying he does not root against AEW in todays Wrestling news

CM Punk doesn’t want AEW to fail, even though his time as a promotion ended in a sour note.

Punk appeared on the SI Media Podcast this week to promote Drew McIntyre’s upcoming match at WWE SummerSlam. During the interview, Punk answered a question about whether he is against his former employer AEW. Punk said he has friends at AEW, and he doesn’t want anyone to lose their jobs. He says that AEW isn’t the same business as he was in.

“I don’t root them against. It’s easy to say, “Oh, I can’t wait for something bad to happen to them.” But in reality, there are many people who work backstage and earn a living. Punk said, “I still have friends who work there. It’s not that I hope someone loses their jobs or that everyone loses their jobs or anything like that.” “It’s not the same as my business. I just look at it that way.” If you want to get paid, then go there and get paid. Congratulations.”

Punk’s AEW was terminated last September with cause after a backstage incident that occurred at All In.

AEW aired footage from the Punk/Perry altercation in Dynamite in April. Punk said on the SI Media podcast he didn’t think showing the footage benefited AEW or hurt Perry. It made him feel as if he was the top attraction in two different companies.

Punk, who is promoting his storyline with McIntyre in the upcoming matchup this Saturday, said that it will pay off. He doesn’t think AEW’s All In episode had the same type of payoff.

“It’s like — I have wrestle Drew McIntyre right? This garbage person is the last thing I want in my life. “But this is the fight, it’s a sh*t talk game,” Punk said. “It’s like fighting in the UFC.” You see these guys getting personal, having ugly press conferences and ripping each other apart. It’s like, I don’t necessarily enjoy the energy. The payoff is that I get to go into a ring, and I can blacken his eyes, chip his teeth, make him sob and do anything else I want to do in my head.

“It felt really bad.” Then I was like, “Why?” I figured that showing the footage wouldn’t hurt or help me, so it was a no-brainer. It’s pretty cool to be the top draw for two different companies. “Thanks guys!”

Punk returned to WWE in November last year, but has not been active since he suffered a torn right triceps at the Royal Rumble in January. SummerSlam marks his first WWE televised match in over a decade. Seth Rollins is the special referee of the Punk vs. McIntyre Match.
