CM Punk wants to team up with John Cena, before Cena finishes his in-ring career.
Punk was asked at WWE & Mattel’s San Diego Comic-Con Panel who he would pick as his tag team partner. Punk joked that he’d pick his dog Larry as his partner for a tag team match. He then said he thought the idea of Cena and him partnering up during Cena’s retirement tour was “pretty intriguing.”
“If I had tag along with someone to beat up some people? Larry. Punk said that everyone is asking him because Cena announced his retirement. “They want to see us fighting each other,” Punk said. “I think that there’s something in me and him tagging. I think it could be interesting.”
Punk compared Cena and him to Batman and Superman. They’ve had in-ring rivalry in the past. Cena was Punk’s opponent at Money in the Bank 2011, when he won the WWE Championship. They also had an amazing match on WWE Raw in Feb 2013.
Cena announced that 2025 would be the last year of his career in the ring. His retirement tour will last from January to December. The number of dates that Cena will be working is “between mid-30s and 40s.”
Punk, who suffered a torn right triceps in January, is now cleared to compete and will face Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam on Saturday in a grudge-match. Seth Rollins is the special referee of the match.
