Danielson was among three members in the group.
According to Fightful, Bryan Danielson, a longtime friend of CM Punk and former in-ring rival, led a small disciplinary panel that made the decision for Punk to be fired from AEW.
Danielson was flanked by AEW General Counsel Chris Peck, and an outside attorney on the three-person panel that was formed quickly after the All In events in August. Megha Parekh, AEW VP, was not involved in the committee as she had already stepped down from a large part of her duties so that she could focus on Khan’s NFL team.
The report:
Danielson was said to be the one who spoke to the roster about Punk’s termination and that the decision had been a difficult one. He cited CM Punk’s positive contributions and his friendship with Punk but said it was up to him to make the decision.
Punk was fired for cause by AEW in early September after a review into the incident between him and Jack Perry at All In, which included Punk reportedly lunging at AEW chief Tony Khan during the skirmish.
Fightful reported Danielson remains a member of the committee, as he is responsible for issuing penalties when these issues arise.
Punk returned to WWE at the Survivor Series in Chicago this past weekend after nearly a ten-year absence.
